Big Pot Making Course

Double the size of your pots in one week

4th - 8th August 2008

&

11th - 15th August 2008

Now in it's 10th year, this summer pottery course is designed to enable anyone with basic pot throwing or hand building skills to increase the size of pots they can make. John Huggins, famed for his rhubarb forcers, has been making a wide range of handthrown terracotta plant pots for over 25 years.

We will concentrate on:

Clay:

  • It's condition and quality.

Throwing:

  • Various techniques.
  • How to use body structure not just muscles.

Hand Building:

  • Use of plasters and other formers.
  • Use of large slab roller.
  • Surface decoration.

Confidence and familiarity with clay and techniques comes with repetition so most of the week will be spent in production using steadily increasing weights of clay. The week will be quite hard and tiring but also, I'm sure, great fun. You can keep as many pots as you like but more importantly you will leave with increased confidence and skill. If you would like to discuss anything about the course ring me on 01594 543577.

Cost: The cost of the course is £275. This includes tea/coffee at mid-morning and mid-afternoon, and bread, cheese, salad and fruit lunches. Workshop sessions will run from 9.30 - 1.00 and 2.00 - 5.00

Payment: £100 on reservation plus £175 by July 1st. If the course is oversubscribed or cancelled all the money will be refunded in full.

Accommodation: There are various B+B's and guest houses in the area. If you would like further details we can send a copy of the Forest Guide.

Ruardean is a small working village on the northern edge of the Forest of Dean perched on the high slopes of the beautiful Wye Valley. It is not a picture postcard village but the walks and cycle rides in the Forest and Wye Valley are wonderful.
